VULCAN VEIL Analyst's AI workbench

About

About me

I am Andrew P. Wheeler, PhD, and I am the only developer of Vulcan Veil.

I earned a PhD in criminal justice from SUNY Albany in 2015. During graduate school I worked as a crime analyst at the Troy, New York police department. After that I taught criminology at the University of Texas at Dallas, and then worked as a data scientist in the private sector. I have more than 35 peer-reviewed papers, cited more than 1,000 times.

Much of my recent work is on practical tools for analysts who use large language models. My book, Large Language Models for Mortals: A Practical Guide for Analysts with Python, is written for that. I also consult and teach through Crime De-Coder. Research notes and a longer record of the work are at andrewpwheeler.com.

Vulcan Veil is the workbench I wanted for that kind of analysis. A person stays in charge of the work, the tools come built in, and the model servers do not keep the prompts. I wrote those choices down in the design philosophy behind Vulcan Veil.
